Jewellery Care

Our jewellery is made from Sterling silver, gold and platinum, and with the right love and care should last you a lifetime. To keep it looking extra sparkly, we’ve created a short guide to help you care for your jewellery.

Care

When putting on/taking off jewellery, it’s best to avoid pulling the jewellery by the stones which can cause loosening.

We recommend keeping your jewellery dry, and removing before washing or swimming.

Avoid getting any household chemicals such as cleaning products, makeup, perfume and hairspray on your jewellery, as they can tarnish the metal. Putting your jewellery on after you’re ready can be a good way to avoid this.

It’s best to remove jewellery before doing any strenuous or messy activities, such as the gym and gardening!

When not wearing your jewellery, keep it safe in a jewellery box or the box it came in.

Be mindful of the hardness of your gemstone (see the Moh’s Scale of Hardness) when deciding on frequency of wear, activities and care.

Prolonged direct exposure to sunshine can cause certain gemstones to fade, so it’s best to keep safely in a box when not wearing.

Try to avoid sleeping in your jewellery, and keep it somewhere safe.

Cleaning

When purchasing commissioned pieces from us, you can receive a complimentary annual clean and polish in store. We will also check stones to make sure they remain secure.

The best way to keep most jewellery clean and shiny is to use a silver cloth regularly.

Most jewellery can also be washed on a regular basis with warm soapy water, and a small soft brush like a toothbrush. We recommend doing this over a bowl in case any parts come loose.

Some gemstones can be damaged in an ultrasonic cleaner, so it’s best to clean these using warm, soapy water. Please research your stone or ask us for guidance if you’re unsure.

We advise against using products such as silver dip as it can strip the surface of the metal and leave it vulnerable to tarnishing again quickly. Many gemstones can also be damaged by these harsh chemicals.

If your jewellery needs a more thorough clean, we offer a paid cleaning service in store.
